Trial Introductory Flight

A Trial Introductory Flight (TIF) offers a hands-on introduction to flying a helicopter, beginning with a briefing on the aircraft and its controls before taking to the air with a qualified instructor. Once airborne, you’ll be guided through taking control of the helicopter yourself, giving you an unforgettable first flying experience, and on the return flight the instructor can demonstrate an autorotation if you wish. A TIF is an ideal way to see if helicopter flying is right for you, and if you choose to continue with flight training, the time flown during the TIF counts towards your license hours.

Private Pilot License

A Private Pilot License (Helicopter) (PPLH) allows you to fly recreationally anywhere in Australia and can be obtained by meeting several requirements. This includes being at least 17 years old, holding a valid ASIC and Class 2 medical, passing the PPLH theory exam and Aviation English assessment, completing a minimum of 50 hours of flight training, and successfully passing the PPLH flight test.

Commercial Pilot License

A Commercial Pilot License (Helicopter) (CPLH) allows you to be paid to fly helicopters and pursue a professional career in aviation. This is achieved by meeting specific requirements including being at least 18 years old, holding a valid ASIC and Class 1 medical, passing seven CPL helicopter theory exams and an Aviation English assessment, completing a minimum of 105 hours of flight training, and successfully passing the CPLH flight test.

Advanced Training

This advanced helicopter training course was developed after identifying that many pilots lack confidence and understanding in emergency procedures and advanced flying techniques during flight reviews. The course is individually tailored to each participant’s experience, skill level, and goals, with flexibility built in to ensure pilots receive focused training in the specific areas they wish to improve.

Flight Reviews

All pilots are required to complete a flight review every two years to maintain the privileges of their license, which is conducted at a flying school with a qualified instructor. This review is a tailored training flight rather than a test, focusing on assessing knowledge and proficiency and addressing any areas that need improvement both on the ground and in the air, with Helibiz offering safe and efficient reviews led by experienced instructors that typically take 1–2 hours of flight time plus ground briefing and can be completed within half a day.

Endorsement & Ratings

The available helicopter endorsements include the Squirrel AS350 B2, Robinson R22, R44 and R66, Leonardo AW119 Koala, and Bell models such as the UH-1H Huey, B205A-1 and B206L3 LongRanger, along with operational ratings covering Low Level flying, Sling operations, and Gas Turbine helicopters.
