Private Pilot Licence Helicopter (PPLH)
You may commence training at any age
A private helicopter licence allows you to fly anywhere in Australia but you cannot fly for money, this is reserved for the Commercial license holder.
You will need to achieve the following:
- Apply to CASA for your ARN ( Aviation Reference Number )
- Apply for your ASIC (Aviation Security Identity Card)
- You must be 17 years old to sit and hold a PPLH licence. (You may commence training at any age, however to fly solo must be 15 years of age)
- You must pass a PPLH theory exam as set by CASA ( Courses available at Helibiz)
- Hold a valid Class 1 or 2 aviation medical certificate.
Flight Training
No previous aviation or academic experience necessary.
To complete flight training you must have a minimum of 40 hours aeronautical experience as a pilot including:
- 30 hours of flight time as a pilot of a helicopter
- 10 hours of solo flight
- 5 hours of solo cross-country flight
Converting from Fixed Wing to Helicopter
PPLA to PPLH: Aeronautical experience as per above, as well as pass helicopter category specific PPL(H) exam or all 7 CPL exams, including 4 helicopter specific CPL exams within 2 years
- 35 hours of flight time as a pilot of a helicopter
- 10 hours of solo flight
- 5 hours of solo cross-country flight
CPLA to PPLH: Aeronautical experience as per above, as well as pass helicopter category specific PPL(H) exam or all 7 CPL exams, including 4 helicopter specific CPL exams within 2 years
- 20 hours of flight time as a pilot of a helicopter
- 10 hours of solo flight
- 5 hours of solo cross-country flight
ATPLA to PPLH: Aeronautical experience as per above, as well as pass helicopter category specific PPL(H) exam or all 7 CPL exams, including 4 helicopter specific CPL exams within 2 years
- 20 hours of flight time as a pilot of a helicopter
- 10 hours of solo flight
- 5 hours of solo cross-country flight
- 2 hours of dual instrument including 1 hour of dual instrument flight time in a helicopter
GST is applicable on all private courses
