Helibiz recently completed a Heli Safari that seen 13 helicopters and 30 plus crew enjoy
a tour of the stunning east coast.
The 8 day trip started at Byron Bay with the crew soaking up the local region for a few days with our accommodation at “Victoria’s” which was a sensational experience before tracking north to Hervey Bay via the Gold Coast, Stradbroke Islands and Sunshine Coast.
Once all the helicopters had landed in Hervey Bay it was time to cruise over to K’gari and former name Fraser island for a couple nights which gave us time to enjoy the tourist favorites like pristine Lake Mackenzie. The next morning we had an earlier start so we could join the local whale watching vessel that began with a heavy fog (lucky no flying planned today) however the sun came out and we seen multiple southern humpback whales on their migration south. We all enjoyed visiting the Wide Bay- Burnett region but it was time to say good bye and get back to the helicopters for our longest flying day.
Once all the groups were packed we departed Hervey Bay for a flight starting at the southern Great Barrier Reef flying north passing
some of the most pristine islands including Lady Elliot, Lady Musgrave and further north Heron Island before turning into Gladstone
for fuel and a lunch break.
Once the choppers and crew had replenished we jumped on the controls and flew up the central Queensland coast now heading for Airlie Beach also known as the gateway to Whitsundays. As we got closer to our destination more and more islands began to appear and the weather was perfect for our arrival into the privately owned Whitsunday Airport at Shute Harbour only 8 minutes from Airlie Beach Township. We all landed and put the choppers to bed and although this was a short heli safari by comparison we all enjoyed exploring this beautiful part of Australia.
Now the flying part had concluded it was now time to enjoy the islands on the water with Ocean Rafting for the day. Our tour included exploring the local islands followed by lunch on one of the best beaches in the world “Whitehaven Beach’ located on Whitsunday Island.
After enjoying Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays the various crews departed for their home towns with plans already in place for another adventure soon…..
